My love of these amazing birds started in 1986 when I was introduced to the sport of racing homing pigeons. I have bred and raced these beautiful birds ever since in the Brighton Co area and in the process, have become an expert bird handler.

The ability of these creatures to return home from long distances has long baffled scientists and to this day still amazes me. No one quite knows how they find their way home, but they think it’s possibly linked to the Sun’s position and the Earth’s magnetic fields at any given time, although memory may also play a role. This instinct along with extensive training makes it possible to fly these birds hundreds of miles. Some people think the practice of flying homing pigeons’ great distances is cruel treatment but this is not the case. These birds live to fly, that’s instinctively what they do. They love to stretch their wings and race home to their clean comfortable loft and when done with the birds’ best interest in mind they make this journey effortlessly.

In 2015 I started breeding the pure white homing pigeons also known as “Rock Doves” for my daughter’s wedding. I enjoyed everything about this project so much that I started breeding and training solely the rock doves.

After her wedding, I had a loft of well trained healthy birds that needed to stretch their wings as regular as possible so I released them at a friends’ weddings and some parties.

Experiencing the joy that everyone from the party guests to the birds got from the exercise is what hatched the idea of Aphrodite’s Doves keeping in mind that the health and well-being of my birds is paramount. My birds are pets not an expendable business asset.

With my bird expertise, along with my husbands’ years of experience working at weddings as a wedding photographer we together have spawned a small successful business making it possible to give you an affordable touch of elegance to your event.

Here at Aphrodite’s Doves, we love that we’re a small business and schedule a very limited number of events in and around Denver. This allows us extra time to get to know you in order to help make this experience what you dream it will be.

Like every business, we have policies on scheduling, refunds, distances we’ll fly from etc. but being a family owned and operated business these are easy enough to change if agreed upon in advance.
